Spring Flooding

With rising water levels and flooding in and around Dauphin from rapid spring snowmelt, we want residents to know that resources are available to help protect private property. 

Sandbags Available for City Residents
City of Dauphin residents can access the following at no cost:

  • Sandbags
  • Sand
  • Fill tube

Location: City of Dauphin Public Works Shop – 22 Jackson Street
Hours: Available 24/7
Access: Self-serve – Please bring your own shovels

WHAT TO DO BEFORE, DURING, AND AFTER A FLOOD

Before a Flood:

  • Prepare a 72-hour emergency kit with essentials.
  • Store valuables and documents in waterproof containers and move them to higher levels.
  • Install or check your sump pump.
  • Make a family emergency plan with contact info and meeting spots.
  • Stay informed via Environment Canada and City of Dauphin updates.

During a Flood:

  • Follow all evacuation orders from authorities.
  • Avoid walking or driving through floodwaters.
  • Shut off gas and electricity if instructed.
  • Tune into local radio, City of Dauphin social media, or www.dauphin.ca for alerts.

After a Flood:

  • Return home only when authorities say it's safe.
  • Avoid floodwater contact – it may be contaminated.
  • Take photos of any damage before starting cleanup.
  • Contact your insurance provider and keep all related receipts.
  • Don’t hesitate to reach out for emotional or mental health support.
